![]() This game does not reward stealing and beating up on the guards. You can't play ULTIMA IV in the same way that you played the first three ULTIMAs and expect to win. I got trapped on an island when the whirlpool came along and destroyed it.īut it's still fun if you're in the mood for that kind of thing. The eight virtues are: honesty, compassion, justice, spirituality, valor, sacrifice, humility, and honor. Note that you cant use powder to negate time in Exodus Castle. Third, thankfully it's nowhere near as bad as 2 in this regards (maybe I was just horribly, horribly unlucky when I played it, but whenever I found a tassel it would always get stolen from me before I could get a ship) but getting a boat - which you DO need - can be a pain in the ass (unless there's some place I missed that sold them otherwise you have to wait for one to spawn. As you go along youll have several fairly tough battles. Second, the game is very grind-intensive (in the sense that you have to repeat a lot of your actions), and although it's kind of fun it does get a bit repetitive. Buying/selling stuff in stores will (at least for selling) remove the gear you're wearing, even if you don't sell it, so remember to re-equip yourself later. First, getting the character information and handling food and equipment is a fucking chore and is the main negative of the game. I'd recommend playing 3 (in case anyone comes back to this thread later on) with some provisions. Won it as well I can now finally move onto Ultima 4 without feeling guilty. for the fan hoping to get his hands on a complete archive of Garriotts work. Beyond the game’s massive scope and intricate complexity it also left a gigantic footprint on the CRPG landscape forevermore. The scale of the world is many times greater than even the vast Ultima V. A very efficient method is to repeatedly loot the first level of the Dungeon of the Snake, where there are 18 chests, but enemies are still weak. Finally actually came back to this because I'd rather manually distribute food to characters than play NWN. Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, one of the original nine Ultimas (nine), is so huge and cavernous it’s honestly hard to properly review in 2019 thirty-four years after its original release without startling shrieking bats out of some ancient floppy drive.
